AWIS Volunteer Opportunities

AWIS Chicago is involved in STEM events in the Chicagoland area throughout the year. These events have a strong focus on introducing STEM fields to parents and students, and provide great opportunities for AWIS members to get involved, meet new people, and promote women in STEM. Check out the 2017 events below for upcoming volunteer opportunities. Let us know if you have any questions at Outreach@AWISChicago.

Not an AWIS Chicago member yet? Joining is quick and easy! Sign up online at www.awis.org (be sure to select AWIS Chicago as your chapter).

CPS Annual Science Fair

*Help AWIS Chicago give a Special Award at the CPS Annual Science Fair!*

The best science projects from students in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system will once again be featured at the annual CPS Science Fair http://chicagosciencefair.com.

AWIS Chicago has been a proud supporter of this science fair for many years, choosing which young girls show the most promise and deserve a Special Award. We need judges in any area of STEM! We provide a rubric for judging, and choose five girls as awardees. It is extremely rewarding to see how many middle and high schoolers participate in the fair, and to realize how many girls are interested in these areas as well.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a Special Awards judge, please e-mail Barbara Di Eugenia by noon on Monday, 3/13 with your name, phone number, and field of specialty.

Expanding Your Horizons, Chicago

Expanding your HorUntitled 1izons (EYH) is a one day conference for middle school girls showing them the exciting and diverse experiences science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers have to offer. At this year’s conference, the girls will pick from a series of hands-on workshops to attend on topics such as food science, biomedical engineering, and particle physics, to name a few. The students will have a great time learning about new careers and participating in hands-on activities that are led by female professionals from a wide variety of STEM careers. In addition, there will be a parent program with panelists and Q&A for parents and teachers to learn more about other science-related activities for their students in the Chicagoland area.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with workshops, student registration and parent program.

Location: TBD
